Garden Window
A garden window is a projected window space that is usually employed for purposes of displaying living plants. It most often is a self contained unit consisting of a top, front, two sides, extension jambs and a bottom.
The top and front are generally fixed lights of glass, with the top sloped to allow proper drainage for water. Being an overhead glazed panel the top should be of approved safety glazing.
The sides may be fixed or venting; most often using a casement type configuration. If venting they should include screens.
The extension jambs are from a structural material that will facilitate fastening the garden window into the wall structure and provide a mounting surface to attach the ends of the side windows to the garden window unit.
Material used on the bottom is a structrual material similar to that used on the the extension jambs. The bottom forms the base of the structure and must be capable of supporting the components above. Since caring for plants will usually produce water drips and spills it is particularly important that the bottom receive some sort of water resistent treatment.
An accessory often found in garden windows is a shelf. This allows for placing more plants in the garden window which adds to the utility of the window.
